Sipho Manzini brings The Queen's Mjekejeke to life on Mzansi's TV screens, but he says he's nothing like him. In fact, he is quite the opposite of the character he plays on the popular TV series.
Sipho Manzini has won over Mzansi's hearts with his portrayal of Mjekejeke on the very popular TV series, The Queen.
However, the veteran actor says he is nothing like his character. As reported by TimesLIVE, Mjekejeke often suffers under bullying from his wife, Petronella.
Sipho says he is no pushover and actually stood up to authority if he felt it was necessary.
Mjekejeke is considered a simple man, and Sipho is much more assertive than him.
I guess people see me on screens and think that I am like Mjekejeke but I can be very assertive if needs be. I am married and love my wife but she does not treat me like Petronella treats her husband. I wouldn't stick around for that.
But Sipho says it's fun to play someone completely different from himself.
That is the joy of acting, for a hours a day you are someone else. But the good thing is you can step away from it at the end of the day and be yourself. I love Mjekejeke and I think a lot of people can relate to him. It is a great character to play.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Sipho said he prepared for his role by looking at actors like Joe Mafela
He was an incredible actor with so much talent. He made it looks so effortless. I watch him and others like him and tried to put myself in the same space.
Sipho's portrayal of Mjekejeke actually taught him some real-life lessons. He learned patience from Mjekejeke.
I think some of the things he goes through are crazy. He literally has to have the patience of a saint to not lose his cool. I am a calm man but I had to step into a whole new space to play his.
Briefly.co.za earlier reported that people underestimate Sipho because of the character he plays.
