Mpho Sibeko, now known for his role as Samson Ngema in Scandal, faced many odds and setbacks before he got his break. But he stayed determined and it paid off - he got a role in the soapie he wanted.
Mpho Sibeko actually wanted the role of Romeo in Scandal, but Hungani Ndlovu got that gig. However, Mpho wasn't upset, and was happy for his fellow actor.
I have wanted to be on Scandal! for the longest time. In fact, from the time that Romeo was brought in, I remember I auditioned for that and even got a call back. I was hopeful and thought it was finally my time to get a major role but a good friend of mine, Hungani got it.
Mpho was in other soapies like Gold Diggers and Rhythm City before he finally got a role in Scandal.
It was not a glamorous or long-lasting role, but he definitely made his mark. Mpho joined the Scandal cast as Pastor Samson Ngema, a crooked and selfish young man.
Shady pastors are a sore point in South Africa and his role really affected viewers. Briefly.co.za reported earlier that Mpho admitted on social media that he was very nervous about his first episode.
But Mpho nailed it and his character was hated by viewers - which was the plan, of course.
The actor remembers that before he got the role of Samson, he worked on many projects while he tried to get a big break.
You try and keep your head up and stay positive. You learnt to speak to yourself and reassure yourself that what you're doing is right and will come right in time.
Finally landing that big role you always wanted can go to a man's head, but that's not the case for Mpho.
You learn to adapt, I guess. I think the key is not let it swallow you. Too many people get swallowed up in it and change who they are. I haven't changed, my friends can tell you that. I think it's because it (acting) is just part of who I am.
We can't wait to see more of Mpho on our screens!
