Limpopo Health MEC finds ‘chaotic casualty’ in New Year hospital visit

- Dr Phophi Ramathuba visited Tshilidzini Hospital on New Year's Day

Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Limpopo's Health MEC, bemoaned the "chaotic casualty" department she found at Tshilidzini Hospital during a New Year's Day visit.

She shared a photo of the casualty area on Twitter, Briefly.co.za gathered. She accompanied it with the caption:

Went to Tshilidzini to welcome the 1st baby delivered in Limpopo, 2019. Welcomed by chaotic casualty with 4 doctors on duty. Worried about majority of cases stab wounds of young people, also alcohol intoxication. Thanks to all our casualty doctors, nurses and support staff not easy.

In a follow up tweet, Dr Ramathuba chastised young people for excessive drinking and the associated cases of assault.

The MEC's Twitter followers agreed with her that the casualty area indeed looked small for a regional hospital.

Others said that the entire Tshilidzini hospital is in a bade state.
