Monakedi was with a friend in his office when 5 armed men allegedly entered at about 10 pm. The thieves took their wallets, car keys and cellphones.
Col Moatshe Ngoepe said that while Monakedi's friend was mostly unharmed, the ANC man sustained heavy injuries.
No arrests have been made as of yet.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the money was collected from service providers in Limpopo and would be spent on the ANC's 8 January statement in Durban. It is not clear yet how the money would have been used.
According to Enock Maponya, a political analyst, believes this was an inside job.
There is nobody who could smell that [he's] keeping [that] huge sum of money in his office.
