0% matric pass rate increases from 2017, with three more schools failing

The number of schools in the country that recorded a 0% matric pass rate has risen from the previous year's statistics

Twelve schools from across the country have recorded a 0% matric pass rate for 2018, increasing from 9 in 2017.

Over 620 000 students wrote their exams last year at nearly 7 000 schools, with around 400 000 passing.

According to the Department of Basic Education, 2018's class achieved a 78.2% pass rate. This is the second highest overall pass rate since 1994.

According to Eyewitness News, Gauteng had achieved the highest provincial pass rate at 87.9%, with Limpopo scoring the lowest at 69.4%.

Of the schools who had scored under 20% for their pass rate, 40 had been in KZN, 17 in the Eastern Cape, 23 in Limpopo, 2 in Mpumalanga, 1 in the North West and 2 for the Western Cape.
