- His message found resonance from many South Africans on Twitter
A video shows a Gauteng pastor urging people to not only pray, but also to take action to change their lives.
Twitter user @AdvBarryRoux posted the video yesterday, Briefly.co.za gathered. The pastor calls himself Joshua Maponga III. He began by saying:
Prayer is not a solution to everything. Please, go to school; don't pray. Pray that you pass exams. Go to work; don't pray. Prayer does not answer poverty. Poverty is an economic problem. If you don't have a formula to turn around your economic [problem], prayer cannot help you.
Maponga went on to encourage people to get involved in efforts to solve the country's political and economic challenges instead of simply praying about them.
In his Twitter bio, the preacher describes himself as:
A farmer of thoughts: multi-instrumentalist - writer, speaker (business consultant), preacher - all things are connected. I'm not this or that. But this and that.
Mzansi netizens appeared to fully support his message. @AdvBarryRoux said:
South Africa is in need of pastors like this one & not these thugs we have who call themselves Prophets.
Others replied in agreement:
