Dramatic footage shows an armed robbery and possible attempted hijacking in broad daylight.

The incident took place on a highway in Johannesburg with many motorists passing by.

The criminals seem in no rush as they have a thorough search of the victim’s car.

Just as it seemed, all hope was lost, gun shots can be heard in the background.

The attackers are seen scampering into their bakkie and fleeing the scene.

Briefly.co.za understands the gun shots were fired by security guards from a bridge when they caught sight of the event.

The viral post got many South Africans engaged with more than 250 comments and has been viewed 178 000 times on Facebook.

Based on the comments, many couldn’t understand how fellow motorists just passed by without assisting.

Debate also raged on regarding firearm laws and the right to self-defence.

While many were quick to agree with the right to bear firearms, some disagreed with the notion.

Eventually, more light was shed on who came to the rescue.
