- Singer Nakhane Toure was named in a list of the hottest artists to watch in 2019, by the New York Times
- This comes after a string of international recognition and acclaim
- Local celebrities congratulated him
The South African flag continues to fly high, after artist Nakhane Toure was recently named among the 10 hottest artists to watch in 2019 by The New York Times.
This is not just any list, the prestige of the title puts Toure right next to the best in the world.
The star recently caught the attention of music veterans Elton John and Madonna, and now it seems others are also appreciating his original style.
His album You Will Not Die explores both pain and healing. The sound is described as South African pop and electronic dance music. The New York Times described his voice as a “vibrant, androgynous falsetto.”
The success seems to be building momentum for Toure as just last month Briefly.co.za learnt that the artist and actor would be featured in this month’s edition of British Vogue magazine. After his outstanding performances at two prestigious international events earlier last year, AfroPunk in Paris and again in New York, he has made a name for himself on an international platform.
Nakhane, who is now based in the UK, was ecstatic when he heard the news. He was congratulated by various local celebrities including Bob Mabena, Moonchild and Lootlove.
