The City of Tshwane will be issuing instructions ensuring Pastor Shepherd Bushiri’s church complies with security regulations after they have been found to be lacking.

This comes after the recent stampede at the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church which claimed the lives of three attendants and injuring many more.

The stampede had occurred when people had tried to reach cover during a heavy storm. The church has been charged with defeating the ends of justice over the manner in which it handled the incident.

Since this unfortunate event the city has conducted an inspection and found the church did not comply with safety standards.

The church has described the event as a natural disaster, saying it had simply been out of their control and that they deeply regret the deaths.

Maynard Manyowa, spokesperson for the church, revealed that an internal investigation has been launched to determine what had happened.
