On Thursday, a video was posted on Twitter which showed a boy beating up a girl at school while their peers stood and watched.

The video shows a girl and boy in a scuffle before another male learner stepped in to stop the fight.

However, the girl continued throwing hits and the boy, who got in the middle, round-house kicked her hard. Other students were heard shouting as she fell back following the kick.

The girl is then seen going back for a second round, using a nearby broom as a weapon. At that point, one of the boys is seen losing it and he tackled her to the ground before beating her up.

Briefly.co.za has not receive information as to where and when the footage was filmed, or what sparked the physical altercation.

The footage left South Africans divided, with some feeling it was disgraceful of the male pupil to beat up a girl while others added he was simply protecting himself against the violent outburst of the female learner.

Twitter user @Sir_Mudau commented: "From the video, it appears as if one gut tried to get in between them, but the GIRL went on attack, as to how we blame the guy for defending himself is beyond me. They guy even tried walking up the stairs but your angel went looking for danger."
