SAUO (the SA Teachers Union) demands that the teacher at the core of the Schweizer-Reneke Primary School racism accusations be reinstated immediately.

According to the union, the school ignored labour laws. Chris Klopper, chief executive of SAUO, says there was an abuse of power.

The suspension is nothing more than a transparent fig-leaf of political opportunism and abuse of power. We have already started processes to challenge the suspension.

News24 reported that Klopper stated SAUO is against any form of discrimination, and says the teacher in question was suspended without following the right labour procedures.

The teacher, who is accused of racism after a photo was shared on WhatsApp of her students sitting separately - allegedly by colour - was not given a letter to inform her of her suspension.

Klopper added that the teacher was also not given the chance to say why she should not be suspended, which the law requires.

We are going to write a letter and put the school governing body and put the school governing body on terms.

Meanwhile, a heartbroken mother has penned a letter to the Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke teacher after she was accused of racism.

Briefly.co.za reported that the mother praised the teacher for loving all her children regardless of their colour.

South Africans are divided on the matter. Many feel the act was completely racist, while others feel one photo was taken out of context and it is a misunderstanding.
