Local Spar staff make differently-abled teen’s birthday extra special

- Staff of Spar Retail Crossing welcomed Brett Nash to the store with a sweet surprise for his 15th birthday

Brett Nash had an extra special birthday this week as his friends at the local Spar at Retail Crossing helped him celebrate and presented him with an exciting surprise, leaving the young man overjoyed.

His mother, Tammy Nash shared a heart-warming video to social media of the employees at their local Spar welcoming Brett into the store where he had a beautifully-wrapped present waiting for him and a delicious cake with Happy Birthday Brett written on it, Briefly.co.za found.

The staff members all chipped in to make Brett’s birthday special and the look of pure joy on his face shows it worked perfectly. The video shows an overwhelmed Brett happily clapping and humming along as the staff sang happy birthday to the young man who turned 15 years old.

Brett was born with a rare undiagnosed condition as well as Distal Arthrogryposis. Distal Arthrogryposis causes restrictions in the feet and hands and can cause them to be permanently bent, among other things, as Breifly.co.za reported previously.

Tammy was overwhelmed by the kindness shown by the staff at the Spar and the lady from the Pet Shop.

“There are no words to describe the feeling of this. I'm so overwhelmed at the love every single staff member has shown Brettie over the years but this takes the cake,” she wrote.

Brett is non-verbal and spends a lot of his time humming tunes he likes. The pleasant young man enjoys music and spending time at the Spar as the staff always make his visits fun, by asking him to help pack bags, singing songs together and just by hanging out.

Even customers enjoy Brett’s visits and love spoiling him. The Johannesburg family, Tammy Brett and his sister have been visiting the Spar for five years now and their routine has become the highlight of Brett’s day.

The Wilgeheuwel community were also brought to tears by the beautiful display of affection and wished the young boy well. Many commented on their experience of seeing the young man at Spar and the beautiful relationship he has with the employees.
