There are many stories of South Africans who matriculate but don’t further their studies due to a lack of funding. One Johannesburg based young woman is proving it’s possible to juggle studies and motherhood, while earning an income.
Twitter user, @MalumDube, is testament to the fact that human beings are able to successfully juggle various spheres of our lives.
Many South Africans hold the view that we need to focus on 1 specific objective at a time – when we work, it’s best not to study and when you study, it’s safer not to work on the side.
Dube’s story flies in the face of such logic.
The University of Pretoria student is pursuing a BCom degree, while balancing 2 jobs and motherhood.
Dube does various promotional work coupled with her duties as a driver for a women’s only driving company.
Her story was shared by the twitter account, #Storytelling Rockstars.
Briefly.co.za understands the group’s ethos is to share inspirational stories of African women.
Dube shares that she draws inspiration from the women in her family, who are all said to be educated and successful.
The young mother encouraged other women by saying, “You’re stronger than you think. Yes, the struggles will always be there and they are real but you’re stronger than the struggles.”
