A security guard was hailed a hero after prevented a tragic incident at Waterstone Village this week.
Andries Monare was honoured by "Centre Management, the Community, Customers and Tenants" on Thursday.
Briefly.co.za learned Monare was presented with the Excellence in Service Award, as well as gifts from the community.
Monare was hailed a brave hero after he prevented an alleged attacker from stabbing a child in the chest with a knife.
"The Guard noticed the accused approaching the child and took him down with force before he could stab him. We are just thankful that no harm was caused to the child and we keep the parents in our prayers," part of Waterstone Village's post read on Facebook.
South Africans were inspired by Monare's heroic actions and they took to social media to praise him.
Ntandazo Jwambi commented: "Salute! We need more positive stories like this."
Rohan Bennie added: "He always has a smile, and is always alert. He's asked me many times to remove my cap when I walk in to the center. Well done Andries, you are a true hero and your dedication is an example to all in the security industry who are keeping our families and children safe as we go about our daily lives!"
Meanwhile, the alleged attacker is set to appear in court on the 23rd January 2019.
