Mrs Maduna is old and sick; at 85 she just needs a good home so she can spend her remaining days peacefully. However, the government is ignoring her plea for help and she is forced to keep living with rats while she waits for an RDP home.
Mrs Maduna, an 85-year-old gogo who has been supporting the ANC all her life, is still waiting for them to give her the help they so loudly promise everyone.
The gogo has been living in a rat-infested shack while she waits for an RDP home, but she feels her time is running out.
Mrs Maduna started working in vegetable fields on a farm near Pietermaritzburg since she was 18 years old, and a nice, decent home to retire in would have made her very happy.
Sadly, Mrs Maduna is ignored by everyone who could possibly help her.
Mbongeni Gumede, the son of a woman who worked with the gogo, is very concerned about her as she is very old and ill.
He tried to get the attention of many people but to no avail.
Gumede said he even tried to send a message to President Ramaphosa, but that didn't deliver any results.
He had her story published in a local newspaper, again, no one came to help.
According to Gumede, a ward councillor from Mkhambathini local municipality knows about Mrs Maduna's situation but has not given her any help.
All ward councillor from 1994 came and go without helping her. She says Ramaphosa is the last President on her longevity, as she is going to be dead when someone takes over.
Gumede told Briefly.co.za that the Njilo foundation once gave a little relief by giving Mrs Maduna groceries, something she was very happy about.
As election time rolls closer, perhaps the ruling party should take a look at all the forgotten people who are not in the streets protesting, but patiently and quietly waiting for their government to honour their promises.
