John Kani, the veteran actor, remembered how he and other actors were treated after a kiss scene that people did not approve of.
John had to kiss Sandra Prinsloo on stage in Miss Julie as well as Joanna Weinberg in Othello, and viewers were not happy. In fact, many people walked out of the theatre.
The recent uproar that was caused by the kiss scene on 7de Laan prompted John to ask if anything has really changed.
It was 34 years ago. White members of the audience in Cape Town and Joburg walked out of the theatre when I kissed Sandra Prinsloo on stage in Miss Julie and Joanna Weinberg in Othello. I wonder has anything changed?
John said Joanna actually eventually left the country after the kiss got so much negative attention, as reported by TimesLIVE.
