Judge deems suspension of Schweizer-Reneke teacher unlawful, orders her return

Elana Barkhuizen, the teacher embroiled in the scandal at Schweizer-Reneke, has had her suspension deemed unlawful today. She appeared at a Labour Court in Johannesburg today.

A judge has deemed the suspension of Elana Barkhuizen unlawful and has ordered that she may return to work.

The teacher, at the centre of the racial controversy at Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke, appeared at a Labour Court in Johannesburg today.

Briefly.co.za recently reported that the scandal had began with a photo depicting what appeared to be a class of young children seperated according to race.

The photo had subsequently gone viral, with outraged members of the public reacting to the alleged segregation.

The teacher had been suspended following a visit from the Department of Education at the school, in response to the public outcry demanding action to be taken.

This recent development sees the teacher being able to return to the school, where numerous parents have come out in support of her, claiming that the photo had been taken out of context.
