A video was shared that showed the shocking impact motorists have by driving illegally in the emergency lane.

An emergency services vehicle desperately tries to navigate traffic with its siren going off loudly.

The video shows how the emergency vehicle is first halted by a taxi as it drives for quite a distance before eventually moving across to the correct lane.

Just as the emergency vehicle picks up a head of steam, it gets slowed down once more when the driver of a small motor vehicle is seen standing still in the same emergency lane.

The driver realises the situation and moves into the active lane.

A second taxi can then be seen in the distance trying to beat traffic by cutting into the emergency lane again but thankfully, the emergency car has now arrived at the accident scene.

The video makes one realise the costly delays these actions can have.

When time is of the essence, these unnecessary delays can be the difference between life and death.

Briefly.co.za noted the comments and many South Africans expressed frustration with law enforcement for often allowing taxi drivers to drive illegally.
