Cassper Nyovest has shared his two cents on the raging debate: why do we praise Americans but shade South Africans for similar achievements?

He believes that the reason we praise Americans and bring down our fellow citizens is because we don't want to see our neighbours winning.

The debate was sparked by Lerato Kganyago who took to social media to talk about the #OpenUpTheIndustry movement.

This hashtag was created by South Africans who feel that the local entertainment industry is saturated with the same faces.

Lerato K ruffled some feathers when she posted her views on the matter.

A huge debate ensued, with some social media users saying the levels of talent that our celebrities possess are not enough to take on so many gigs.

As the debate waged on, Cassper Nyovest decided to chip in by responding to a post from a fan.

Here’s the thing with my people, we want to hear about success but we don’t want to hear about our neighbors success because it makes us feel inferior and incompetent. If it’s in America it’s fine because it’s far, not here.

Nyovest is no stranger to backlash from social media for posting about his achievements.

Briefly.co.za recently reported that the African rapper had tongues wagging when he bought a R10 million mansion. He has been accused of shaming the poor.
