Many have dubbed the EFF the ANC's strongest opposition going into the 2019 national elections. And, with the opposition party only six years old, a lot of focus has been on the man who made it possible - Julius Malema.
Known as a fearless politician who is unapologetic in his beliefs, Malema has become the people's hero. However, there is far more to him than his career.
Aside from the stone cold EFF leader, Malema is a warm and loving father and husband. So, Briefly.co.za decided to take a look at the things he has said about his family.
1. His management
In 2014, Malema tied the knot to Mantwa Matlala, whom he also calls his management.
I had to rush home to spend quality time with my wife. Please allow me the privilege of being next to you for your next fifty birthdays to come, because it feels good. I love you my management.
2. Sweet message on their fourth anniversary
Taking to social media on their anniversary last year, Malema thanked his wifey for giving him the perfect life.
Happy 4th Anniversary Mma go Bašimane. Thank you for giving me a perfect Love and being there for the boys. I am deeply grateful for having you as my permanent partner and will always Love you.
3. His kids
Malema is the proud dad of three children - Ratanang (12), Munzhedzi (2), and Kopani, who is set to turn one in February.
Although the EFF leader often gushes about his kids, including sending them sweet messages on their birthdays, he also feared for their safety.
After Jacques Pauw revealed details about Malema's current home, the EFF leader feared for his family's safety.
What worries me is that I have three little children in that house, that stay with her and anything could happen, it could get dangerous for them. Just wait until I involve Pauw’s wife and children, then you will say I am threatening journalists.
I still have bodyguards, and now my wife says strange cars are parking outside the house. And then driving away. Nobody must come there. When it comes to my wife and kids, I shoot to kill.
Although Malema seems to be quite the family man, he had to distance himself from one of his cousins, Matsobane Phaleng, The South African reported.
According to reports, Phaleng was implicated in the VBS scandal. Malema said they were not close and that he was just one of 10 cousins in the family.
Taking to social media, Juju dismantles the allegations against him:
"He got 16mil and gave DP 10mil, EFF 1,3mil and now my cousin 5,9mil. You do the calculations," he wrote on Twitter.
5. His parents
Malema's mother died when he was still very young and his dad has not exactly been present. However, the EFF leader admitted he is touchy when it comes to his parents.
I know I am a target of assault. People are looking for me to make a single mistake and finish me. Because when you insult me about my mother, you really get to me.
