Sergio Coelho’s faith in humanity was restored after a kind stranger returned his lost phone a day after he lost it.
Sergio lost his phone while visiting the V&A waterfront in Cape Town. He dropped his iPhone in the parking lot and was convinced he’d never see it again.
But then the unthinkable happened. Around 10:30pm, a friend named Melissa received a call. Sergio had been calling Melissa frequently from his cell phone earlier and her number was on the iPhone’s call history, Briefly.co.za found.
A kind stranger named, Sbu, had found Sergio’s phone and called the last dialled number, hoping to return the phone to its rightful owner. Sbu told Sergio not to worry, and that he will bring the phone to him the next day.
Although Sergio cynically believed it was too good to be true, he went to V&A waterfront to meet Sbu the next day. Sure enough, there Sbu was with a smile on his face. He shook Sergio’s hand and started to walk away without waiting for a reward.
Wanting to thank him properly, Sergio called Sbu back. Sbu told Sergio he had been at the waterfront looking for a job because he was unemployed.
Moved by Sbu’s kindness Sergio shared his story on social media. He also encouraged South Africans to help Sbu find work as he has proven that he is honest and loyal.
A social media users, Brett Solomon said that he has a store at the waterfront and would be happy to get into contact with Sbu.
Another user said that Sbu was living up to his name, which means ‘a blessing’.
