Mzansi mourns the death of pupils after walkway at high school collapsed

On Friday morning, a bridge collapsed at Hoërskool Driehoek in Vanderbijlpark. According to education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, 3 pupils have died.

During a press briefing, Lesufi said two male pupils and one female pupil died. Five learners remain critical, 14 have “moderate” injuries and two are being treated for minor afflictions, he said at the time of the briefing.

Gauteng department of education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, also confirmed the tragic incident.

South Africans were left shocked and saddened over the news and have taken to social media to send their condolences to the pupils' families.

Virginiah Moima wrote: "Wish them speedy recovery those injured nd condolences to the families who lost their kidz. May their soul rest in peace .hope the kidz will get counselling regarding this trauma."
Robert Kwil added: "Very very sad, condolences to all families, friends, teachers and members of the public, thank you to all medics, saps, counselors and business owners that have assisted. God bless you."
Gerty Haupt commented: "Gerty Haupt This is really sad news.Condolences to the family and those who were injured.God be with you."
Maria Maleshoane Motlalile said: "Eish it is so painful, my condolence to their families n friends."
