Kate posed the question on the post: “Where does the money from the education department go?”

The school seems to be quite dilapidated with broken windows and ceilings, overgrown grass and damaged plaques.

Veronica Steyn simply said, “This is shocking.”

Wilmayne Van Der Westhuizen provided some insight when she added: “The truth is that the money from the education department is barely enough to pay electricity. If these schools don’t get school fees from the parents there is no way they can afford maintenance. I was shocked to see a financial statement from a local school. 55% of teachers are paid from school fees and 80% of maintenance was paid from additional income. If schools are not managed as businesses they will all look like this. Sad but true.”
