This week, media mogul Sibongile Mafu posted a Tweet that won the heart of many South Africans. Mafu told the world that her mom was retiring, after 37 years of teaching, and shared a screenshot of a special moment between mother and daughter about her mom’s last day.
Sibongile Mafu, KFM anchor and media personality, posted an image on Twitter on Thursday of a Whatsapp message exchange between her and her mother.
Her caption of the image spoke of her mom’s retirement after over three and a half decades of teaching, while the Whatsapp screenshot showed Mafu’s mom’s adorable reply to her daughter wishing her well for her last day.
What made Mafu’s tweet so touching was not only the impressive nature of her mother’s retirement, but also her mom’s sharp cricket references, which left Mzansi smiling.
Over three decades of teaching is definitely something to celebrate and Briefly.co.za saw many South Africans salute this feat over Twitter, with some sharing their own stories.
The cricket lovers on Twitter were absolutely enchanted by umama’s response and wished her well for her retirement.
What also makes this particular 37 years of teaching so impressive is that Mafu’s mother taught for this period of time at the same school. Now that’s dedication.
Briefly.co.za thanks Mrs Mafu mom for her contribution to education in South Africa and wishes her all the best for her retirement!
