Intelligence Bureau SA posted a video on their Facebook page yesterday of a hijacking that took place near Impala Crescent, in Lanasia Ext 5.

The video, showing the victims ambushed, held at gunpoint and shoved to the ground, left viewers shocked and nervous about levels of crime in SA.

From the footage, it appears that the criminals lay in wait for the electric car gate of the victim’s property to roll open and subsequently intercepted the family, quickly blocking their car and intimidating them with firearms.

Some say that the man driving the white car should have reversed to avoid the confrontation, but it’s a difficult call to make, because armed criminals will often not hesitate to shoot.

The hijacking must have been extremely traumatic for the victims involved, but luckily all remain unharmed.

While many peoples’ opinions may differ on the way to handle these kinds of violent crimes, I think that Mzansi can agree that we need to look out for one another, and be vigilant when it comes to crime in SA. We can be grateful that the victims of this violent event are unharmed and hope that they will stay safe in the future.
