To the dismay of his large following, Prophet Sheperd Bushiri was arrested yesterday by the Hawks and is scheduled to face court on Monday.

Bushiri has been a prominent feature in SA news of late. According to ENCA, the pastor was arrested last year for shipping millions of Rands to Malawi, his home country.

He will be appearing in court this coming week on serious charges of fraud and money laundering.

Bushiri has spent the night in custody and devotees are expressing defiance against the pastor’s arrest.

Earlier this week, Briefly.co.za reported on how social media users accused the pastor of swindling them out of thousands of Rands.

On top of this, Bushiri was heavily scrutinised this past December, after 3 members of his congregation were trampled to death at his church.

Although the CRL Rights Commission found that the church in question complied with all safety regulations at the time of the incident, many have been protesting the prophet since the scandal, especially since the deaths were not initially reported to the police.
