Religious leader, “Prophet” Shepard Bushiri, is one of those people who can’t stay out of the news.
Fred Warlord Tavengwa shared a video of the self-proclaimed prophet via Facebook and it went viral in no time.
The short clip shows Bushiri telling his congregation that he has good news - he has secured R500 million for the construction of the church.
The crowd immediately erupts as his supporters go into a frenzy.
Bushiri then continues and adds, “The bad news is the money is still in your pocket.”
Incredibly, the initial giggles die down and the vast majority of the congregation cheer vociferously.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the hilarious moment wasn’t lost on social media users.
Many mocked the controversial leader and shared their disbelief with their responses.
Tankiso Nkwana said, “You know the funny part of us neh kgole... while we are there we don’t listen...people just scream for everything he says.”
Kim Maneveld asked, “No way!! Did those people dance after the bad news?”
Logg G Roodt added: “This guy has played enough with people’s minds, take him away before it gets worse!”
Based on various reports, the footage was actually taken from a few years ago but South Africans mocked the message nonetheless.
The CRL Rights Commission had just cleared Bushiri of wrongdoing following a deadly stampede at his church but he was subsequently arrested.
The Citizen reported that Bushiri’s church, The Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG), issued a statement that their leader had been arrested by the Hawks on charges of money laundering and fraud.
The embattled pastor was taken in along with his wife, Mary Bushiri.
