Mzansi was buzzing about speculations that Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede Mantashe, has joined the VW Polo Playas club, after he was recorded exiting the humble vehicle in Cape Town, where he had been attending an indaba.
Social media was soon chattering about why the minister was seldom seen parading around in flashy cars, while others were convinced Uncle Gwede was just vying for Mzansi’s attention, Briefly.co.za found.
Many hopeful South Africans expressed their opinion that maybe Gwede was trying to set a good example to the other politicians, by maintaining humility and being considerate of taxpayers money.
Social media user, Curt, argued to the contrary saying that ministers only act humble when they need the people’s votes. Another Twitter user joked that Gwede was still wearing a suit suit sponsored by Agrizzi.
After hours of of specualation and rumours firing up social media, Gwede’s spokeperson, Nathi Shabangu, spoilt Mzansi’s fun and commented that the minister simply made use of whatever vehicle was available when he needed it.
