- The SONA is a prestigious event, but clearly some missed that
- Guests have been walking the red carpet and some have been turning heads for all the wrong reasons
- Briefly.co.za brings you the worst dressed of the #SONA2019
It’s that time of year again, SONA time, and all eyes are glued to Parliament in Cape Town and it has turned out to be a real fashion show.
As President Cyril Ramaphosa prepares to deliver his second State of the Nation Address, government officials and fellow parliamentary members from all over the country have been pouring in.
Briefly.co.za has noticed some rather questionable outfit choices crossing the SONA 2019 red carpet, and we felt that we should share them with you.
The SONA is an extremely prestigious and important even in Mzansi, so wearing your grandmothers table cloth is definitely not an option.
If the state of our nation depended on the fashion sense of our officials, it would be safe to say that we are doomed, but luckily, it’s not.
Here are some of the worst dressed from the SONA 2019:
While MP Steve Swart dressed accordingly, Siobhan may have gotten her event dates mixed. It’s the SONA honey, not the JnB Met.
EFF's Floyd Shivambu
If security did not know who Floyd was, they would have probably mistaken him for a maintenance man. We understand that the EFF like to stick to their colour, but a touch more class would have been appreciated.
DA MP Natasha Mazzone
Wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer is a sweet touch, but this dress makes her look like a roll of polony with a ribbon around it. Ebola is so last season!
Good Leader and Former Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille
Seems like getting the boot from the DA has turned De Lille into a soul cleansing hippie? She looks like she is going to a baptism.
DA MP Phumzile van Damme and her sister Qiniso van Damme, and ANC MP Thandiwe Mfulo
The sister duo took the red carpet look to the next level. Calm down, it is not New York Fashion Week, it is just the SONA.
Is Thandiwe trying to say something by sporting her funeral wear to the SONA? A bit of colour may have painted a brighter picture.
ANC’s Nocawe Mafu
She may have gone a bit too wedding vibey with this one and that dress could have used a steam, the creases are real.
Minister Cindy Tshikunga
Oh no, this dress turns heads for all the wrong reasons. Maybe to a Sunday church service, but not the SONA.
