Imagine going on social media to get updates on the 2019 State of the Nation Address (Sona) and all of the sudden your entire TL is Afrikaans. Ja, sommer so uit die blou!

Before the Sona kicked off yesterday, Afrikaans was trending on Twitter. However, it was not until the Sona was fully underway that it truly caught fire.

According to TimesLIVE, the Afrikaans memes flooded Twitter after Ramaphosa spoke about the recent oil discovery in SA.

Apparently, tweeps wanted to learn the language to negotiate for land, however, those who joined the party late had no idea why everyone was suddenly speaking Afrikaans. Not that it stopped them from joining in on the fun.

From "ons is hier" to "wag vir my, ek kom ook" - the memes had us in stitches.
