Get ready for a musical like none other before. Imagine glitz and glamour, drama and hilarity. Imagine Somizi! The extravagant entertainer wants to return to the drama stage with his very own musical.
One of Mzansi's favourite entertainers, Somizi, wants to bring his own musical to live on a stage.
He stepped into the spotlight after he joined the musical Sarafina! and the passion he had for theatre back then is still in his blood.
Somizi recently told Marc Lottering during an interview that he wants to produce his own musical, as reported on by TimesLIVE.
Apparently, Marc’s most beloved character, Aunty Merle Abrahams, is what got Somizi thinking about it.
You have ignited my love for musicals. I am writing a musical because of you.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Somizi feels theatre is not a dead art in South Africa.
Some people may think theatre in South Africa is dying. It hasn’t died, or is even attempting to be in a coma. We just need bums in seats.
In 2018, Somizi was in Gibson Kente's musical drama How Long? as a choreographer. It was then that he realised theatre is still very much alive.
When I was asked to choreograph this I was really honoured. This is where I was conceived. I have come full circle. For me it’s not just a pay cheque. It’s in my blood, because of my parents, I had no choice really.
We can't wait to see what magic Somizi creates on our stages!
