US rapper Cardi B has made history by becoming the first solo female artist to win a Grammy award for Best Rap Album last night.
The Bodak Yellow rapper won the award for her debut album Invasion of Privacy. This is Cardi's first ever Grammy win. She gave a heartfelt acceptance speech, thanking her team and her family, including husband Offset.
The only other female artist to win the coveted award is Lauryn Hill who has been featured on the list of winners for Best Rap Album after hip-hop group The Fugees won the award.
Mzansi's very own Soweto Gospel choir also scooped a Grammy last night. Briefly.co.za reported that they bagged the Best World Music Album trophy for their album Freedom. Diniloxolo Ndlakuse Shimmy Jiyane, Mary Mulovhedzi and Mulalo Mulovhedzi accepted the award on behalf of the proud group.
Fans and industry peers took to social media to congratulate Cardi B.
