Mmusi Maimane, leader of the Democratic Alliance, threw some shade the ANC's way with a recent Twitter post.

In the post, Maimane reminded South Africa to thank the ruling party for 'sponsoring' the Stage 4 load shedding experienced nation wide yesterday.

Adding a photo of his candle during the power outage, Maimane spared no blows, saying:

Proudly brought to us by the ANC (Another Night with Candles). When South Africans need action from this gov, it sat by and never acted. Their gift to the Guptas has been treasonous to our citizens. We need change and we need it now.

While many users were happy to have someone to blame for their trip back to the dark ages, others were quick to point out the DA should offer up something other than the ANC's failures, should they wish to get anywhere in the upcoming elections.

@sibajackpama told the leader to take a moment to relax and that the nation was painfully aware of the ruling party's shortcomings.

@Zweli10 clapped back at Maimane, saying that DA-led Tshwane has been one of the cities that have been the hardest hit by blackouts. He called the DA out, claiming that the party didn't care about the needs of the people.

Emile Langenhoven came out in support of the party and it's leader, saying that this post had not been an isolated cry for attention, but just a small part of a relentless campaign.
