A story about a multicultural and happy family tugged at the heartstrings of social media users across South Africa. Janika du Plooy shared the beautiful story about an eclectic mix of people came together and formed a strong community built on mutual understanding, love and appreciation.
Janika says that the front doors of her and her neighbours’ houses all face a courtyard where the children play and the adults hang their laundry to dry.
Janika says an incident that recently occured inspired her to share the post about their lovely community, Briefly.co.za found.
She recalls how the kids were playing when Amanda boldly asserted that she always wanted to play with a white person’s hair. When Daniel remarked that Amanda was being racist, Jankia explained to him that being fascinated by and eager to explore the differences that people have, then it is not being racist but making meaningful connections.
She jokes that even the cats have fallen into the communal way of living and freely roam between the houses.
Janika shared photos of the adorable kids in her community. Aaron and Khiara are siblings and are Jewish. Daniel is a multilingual young boy and Esther’s older brother. Marcus has two lovely twin sisters and finally, Andrew. The kids have adopted little CJ as their own little brother and he thoroughly enjoys all the attention.
The mothers, Amanda and Natasha help each other by watching the kids when one is unavailable.
