President Cyril Ramaphosa showed Mzansi his sensitive side and sent best wishes to ANC stalwart and liberation struggle veteran, Mama Rebecca Kotane. The strong gogo celebrated her 107th birthday and is “as advanced in years as the ANC itself,” as Ramaphosa remarked.

He added, “her life should serve to us as a lesson in service, endurance and selflessness.” The president also thanked Mama for the sacrifices she made for our country.

Ramaphosa also shared a beautiful photo of himself with Mama Kotane.

Celebrations were held at Mama’s home in Diepkloof, Soweto and was attended by ANC members as well as members of the South African Communist Party (SACP), as Mama was the wife of the late Moses Kotane, SACP’s secretary general, Briefly.co.za found.

Her party brought many South Africans together and roads were closed for the occasson, News24 reported.

ANC also took the opportunity to acknowledge and share their gratitude for the strong women of the struggle and to women who continue to struggle for a better society today.

Social media users remarked that uMama has seen enough major challenges in her day to understand the issues that the country currently faces is small in comparison and will be overcome.

While many users were eager to share their congratulations for Mama Kotane’s long and triumphant live, others failed to see past the negatives of our proud country’s circumstances and questioned whether Mama still supports the party now.

Users angrily commented that the president allowed the current load shedding crisis to occur as part of a political conspiracy, while others pointed out the rampant corruption in the party, and claimed Ramaphosa was just another corrupt leader.
