A social media user shared photos of a Grade 1 teacher polishing her classroom floor. The snaps sparked a debate on Facebook, as many people felt she shouldn't have to do it and others feel she's preventing someone else from getting a cleaning job.
A man, identified as Pastor David Moshoeshoe, shared two photos of a Grade 1 teacher getting down on her knees and polishing her classroom floor.
According to him, the teacher is 60 years old and teaches at Manyuswa S.P School in Umlazi.
While he expected her to be praised for going beyond her duty, the photos started a heated debate between other social media users who had very different opinions.
Some people did applaud the teacher and hope that more will follow her example, but Briefly.co.za gathered that others felt she was being selfish and preventing an unemployed person from possibly getting a job as a cleaner at the school.
Here's a couple of the comments that the photos garnered on Facebook:
Prince Shikweni - M not supporting this ,why the SGB committee from teachers site can't hire someone who's jobless to do this ... when we talk about selfish government employees we talk about people like her ... n I don't think she did it for free ...if we can send the auditors we will find the invoice for cleaning
Bongani Mpisane - Invoice for cleaning her class? Selfish for wanting to teach in a clean environment? So it her fault that the sgb hired no one to do so?...You really need to think before you come with your politics.
Ndu Khowa - So true. The money that is suppose to pay a cleaner is there. This shouldn't be happening.
Mams Rams - She is doing this out of love, maybe she is helping the cleaners who are working very hard
Mthobisi Myende - I think the department should be very proud to have her and other teachers who go an extra mile to show their commitment and passion about what they’re hired to do against all odds. This effort really need to be recognized. Thanks
Nkosingiphile Mazikode Nkwanyana - I don't get why you people happy about a teacher cleaning her own class when there a supposed to be cleaners doing this. Kanti what happened to creating job opportunities weGovernment?
Rowan Ramtahal - I was a teacher as well... Such a teacher is a rare specimen, a gem. Take a bow, ma'am.... The DOE must merit you, and others like you...
