A social media user, Abuti Josef, expressed his concern that the infamous Pastor Shepard Bushiri, who is facing allegations of fraud and money laundering, has captured top South African politicians.
Abuti shared photos of the pastor with former president, Jacob Zuma, and EFF leader, Julius Malema.
Juju has recently publicly showed his support of the “prophet” and claimed the Enlightened Christian Gathering church leader was being unfairly targeted and his credibility as a spiritual leader undermined. Social media users also shared their views that the pastor was a EFF donor.
Abuti also brought attention to rumours that Zuma had protected the pastor when fellow politician, Fikile Mbalula had called for his arrested earlier. Twitter users joked that uBaba was always to be found where thee are shady dealings going on in Mzansi.
Other users were more sceptical and said the pictures do not prove anything because being friendly with someone doesn’t necessarily mean you support their politics or are in their pocket. Twitter user, Moreki Wamoreki, alternatively pointed out that seeing the pastor generally cost people R5000 and being at the table with him would cost R25 000, Briefly.co.za learned.
Other users felt that it only made sense that corrupt church leaders and politicians would be well-acquainted as they tend to play the same games.
