Being a part of the Mercedes-Benz team, Maps Maponyane was lucky enough to have attended the Laureus Sports Awards in Monaco last night.

The Laureus World Sports Awards is an event that honours sports men and women for their great achievements.

Briefly.co.za learnt that Maps was extremely honoured to be a part of the event, again. He refers to it as ‘the Oscars of sport’.

This prestigious event was inspired by Nelson Mandela when he declared that, “Sport has the power to change the world”, at the Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000.

The great word of our former leader, Tata Mandel, gave rise to the Laureus Sport for Good programme that now supports over 150 projects in more than 40 countries, by helping children change their lives for the better through sport.
