Mmusi Maimane shared a seemingly uneventful tweet where he praised the beauty of our country and called on South Africa to drive tourism.
The DA leader included some wildlife photos and ended the caption with the slogan: “Let’s build a nation that works.”
It all seemed so beautiful, so motivational and so tranquil.
However, it proved to be the calm before the storm as the tweet attracted a host of fiery responses.

Many tweeps bemoaned the fact that the beauty of the country and wildlife remains inaccessible for the masses.
One man even made the startling comparison that it’s more affordable for South Africans to travel to Phuket than plan a holiday on a game park.
A number of the responses were quite personal, referencing Maimane’s in-laws.
