Meet Peter Nyati, successful mushroom farmer for over 16 years

Peter Nyati has over sixteen years in the mushroom industry, growing Tropical Mushrooms on his Magaliesburg farm after taking a leap of faith years ago.

Peter is an agricultural economist from Zimbabwe but moved to South Africa where he got into marketing and finance for major insurance brokers, Briefly.co.za found.

While working for Denny’s, a well-known feature in Mzansi grocery franchises, Peter developed an interest the science behind mushroom growing which he felt wasn’t present in conventional agriculture, News24 reported.

Wanting to be in control of his own future, Peter and his family decided to take a leap of faith and jump aboard the mushroom industry.

After a gruelling three and half years, Tropical Mushrooms was born and has been a huge success. The company employs 150 people and has been awarded, “small supplier of the year” by Pick n Pay.

Peter loves mushrooms and says he loves them, News24 discovered. He says he even eats them raw.
