- Somerset-West resident, Wayne Gerard, took to Facebook recently to share a story about how his perceptions were completely shifted after a beggar made the effort to return Wayne’s phone to him
- Wayne was helping his girlfriend pack up after a beach event when a man by the name of Jeremy Raymond Adams called out to him
- Wayne initially ignored Adams, but was then shocked and grateful when Adams ran up to him with the phone that had fallen out of Wayne’s pocket
Wayne Gerard’s world was turned upside-down recently when someone begging for change helped return his phone.
Wayne took to Facebook to give his utmost gratitude to the man, Jeremy Raymond Adams, and to encourage others to be aware of their own prejudices, as many of those we initially judge have hearts of gold.
Wayne was very honest in his post, explaining that, when Jeremy tried to get his attention, his first reaction was to ignore him.
“Expecting the worst, I ignored him and braced for the confrontation,” Wayne admitted.
The post goes on to explain that Jeremy was actually trying to get Wayne’s attention in order to give him his phone, which had fallen out of his pocket.
Wayne and Jeremy then spoke at length and Jeremy shared his story with Wayne, who was touched and humbled by the exchange.
Briefly.co.za saw how Gerard left social media users with a very touching and real message that could certainly make a difference in South Africa.
“We all need to rethink what we think we know. And reconnect. I do realise that there are a lot of bad elements out there but if we tar everyone with the same brush society hands us we will surely miss the good souls.”
