South Africans were left fuming after a video resurfaced on social media which showed the 'resurrection pastor', Alph Lukau, escorted by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.
The JMDP has confirmed that the footage of a police escort for Pastor Lukau was indeed authentic, eNCA reported on Tuesday.
The statement, which was made JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, revealed the video was legit and that it was 'wrong' for the department to favour the controversial pastor.
However, Minnaar added the footage was filmed during the rule of current police chief, David Tembe's predecessor.
“It did happen. It shouldn’t have happened. It was prior to the chief who is now current, David Tembe," he was quoted.
The statement followed outrage on social media after a video went viral of Lukau being escorted by several police vehicles and even cops on horses.
According to social media user @Am_Blujay, Lukau was on route to church when the video was taken.
Briefly.co.za gathered the video sparked quite the reaction on social media and it outraged South Africans.
Twitter user @CharlesPieters commented: "SA is captured in all spheres, This man is using state resources that is intended to do crime prevention, enforce traffic laws etc...Wow!!"
