A Nakuru teacher has been nominated among the best 10 tutors globally in the 2019 edition of prestigious Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize.
Peter Mokaya who teaches Maths and Physics at Keriko Secondary School, beat other 10,000 applicants from 179 countries across the globe on Saturday, 23 February.

Though winning came as a surprise, his students and school administration believed Mokaya would be on top of the list which comes with KSh 100 million prize money.
On his part, the young tutor who has been donating gives 80% of his monthly income to the less privileged said even though the school headteacher urged him to apply, he was sure he would not make to the top.
"I am pleased, honoured and humbled to be selected from thousands of applicants from around the world to the top 10 list. I appreciate this great recognition on behalf of all the hard working teachers throughout the world whose great achievements go unnoticed,” he said.
