Though winning came as a surprise, his students and school administration believed Mokaya would be on top of the list which comes with KSh 100 million prize money.

On his part, the young tutor who has been donating gives 80% of his monthly income to the less privileged said even though the school headteacher urged him to apply, he was sure he would not make to the top.

"I am pleased, honoured and humbled to be selected from thousands of applicants from around the world to the top 10 list. I appreciate this great recognition on behalf of all the hard working teachers throughout the world whose great achievements go unnoticed,” he said.
