A lot of South Africans condemned the actions of the cop, adding it was not his job to assault alleged criminals.

Social media user @nikMorgans commented: "How do u make a crime on top of another crime this officer must face the law as well."
Another tweep, @stimslo, commented: "Doing this only instills hatred in someone, such that their self worth is diminished and only hardens one further. regardless of my crime, I am a human being and there is much you can do to make me or break me... this kind of slapping only breaks me further and boy oh boy..."
Asiphilesonke, who goes by the Twitter handle‏ @Asiphilesonke1 wrote: "Their job is to make arrests, not discipline. Or are we guilty until proven innocent?"
