For many, the loo is a place of serenity, a place where many go to take a breather away from their families. However, imagine opening the lid of the toilet to find a venomous snake starring back at you.

A video was shared on Tuesday which showed a snake catcher responding to a call from a Pretoria resident, who found an unwelcome visitor using the toilet.

The video was posted on South Africa Live's Facebook page, along with the caption:

"Why you should always check first! 2.5m long Snouted Cobra found hiding in Pretoria residents flats."

To top it off, the massive snake was not particularly friendly either. As the catcher tried to put him into a container, the serpent would strike.

"Tjooo, he just bit," the man filming the horror showed was heard saying.

Needless to say, Mzansi was given the heebie-jeebies and Briefly.co.za took a look at some of the funniest reactions.

Liam T van Zyl wrote: "I was on the loo, thinking about how crazy living in Australia must be, then I realized it was in South Africa."
Deon Van Schalkwyk added: "Snake versus snakie! Which one will run first!??"
Jermaine TheJer commented: "Basin for me from now on , toilet has just become an ornament in my house."
