Woman shoots and kills man who tried to strangle her mother in car

A woman shot a suspected thief in the head, while he attempted to steal her 79-year-old mother's necklace. The man had been strangling her when he had jumped in through the cars window. Social media users were pleased that the lady had protected her mother from the alleged thug.

A suspected thief has been shot dead after trying to steal a grandmother's necklace. The 79-year old woman had been in the car with her daughter and 8-year-old grandson.

They had stopped at a robot in Vereeniging, with the window half open. According to Captain Fikile Funda, SAPS spokesman, this is when the suspect had taken his chance:

"Out of nowhere, this man stuck his hands inside the motor vehicle and grabbed the old lady's throat, choking her. He went for her gold chain. As the old lady was struggling, the driver [her daughter] saw what was happening."

Reacting to the situation, the daughter had pulled out her licensed firearm and shot the man in the head. The 30-year-old suspect was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and a docket has been opened.

The response shown on social media has illustrated how tired South Africans are of the high crime rates.

Countless people congratulated the woman on her brave deed, protecting her elderly mother. Many felt that she had done the community a service, with one user asking for account details so he could reward her.
