A brave women battling cancer is brightening up her life and the lives of others who have lost their hair due to chemo, by creating beautiful hats. Lori-Anne van der Merwe is 49 years old and is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, causing her to lose her hair.
Her diagnosis came as a shock and added to an already difficult period in her life as she had just lost her father to the illness in the same year. It was an emotion time for Lori-Anne who was otherwise in good health and even a Pilates instructor.
Only a few weeks after being diagnosed and starting chemotherapy, Lori-Anne started losing her hair. Realising that many cancer patients struggle with finding headscarves that fit them comfortably, Lori-Anne decided that making hats would be a great way to motivate and uplift patients, Briefly.co.za found.
She started a small business, Bald and Beautiful, making gorgeous accessories in different colours and patterns. She says her products are made with love and she hopes they’ll help empower people.
