Mahlapahlapana said he last saw his son on Saturday morning, just before he rushed off to church for a leadership training meeting.

The father added Themane himself was heading off to a practice session at a church with the two new speakers he had bought him.

However, his son never returned home that Saturday and Mahlapahlapana knew something was off because Themane would always phone him if he ran late.

He tried calling his son several times but his phone was switched off. On Sunday morning, Mahlapahlapana went to check his son's room just to find an empty, unslept in bed.

They went to church, hoping their son would turn up at home. However, Mahlapahlapana and his wife started panicking when there was no sign of him after they got back home.

So, they went and searched for him, first trying the police station before heading to the hospital.

Mahlapahlapana said they asked if there had been anyone admitted to the hospital on Saturday night or Sunday morning, but, they were told no one what that name came in.

However, they were told that an unidentified young man was admitted into ward C.

"We proceeded to ward C, when we arrived we told them we're in search of a fellow and they said how was he dressed and the mother described the clothing and the nurse said it seems that's the one who is here. We sighed with relief," he said.

However, the joy of finding their son was short lived as the nurse came back out and asked them to go into a room.

Mahlapahlapana said he immediately knew something bad had happened since people are only taken to 'that' room to receive bad news. A senior staff member came in and gave them the devastating news.

“They said, oh, sorry. This fellow was here, he was admitted last night and he passed on this morning. That Sunday morning. At that time, it was around 7-8 o’clock in the evening. That is when we received the news and we were shocked.”

Briefly.co.za previously reported Themane died at the hospital after he was allegedly beaten by a group of teenagers.

A video went viral which showed his body being dragged by a group of people and a second clip showed a high school student bragging about murdering someone.

It has since been revealed that six teenagers have been arrested for his murder.
