- The DA is up in arms after one of their MP candidates was asked to prove that she is a person of colour
- The leader of the KZN Women’s Network questioned the race of would-be MP, Hannah Winckler
- The DA is currently investigating the matter
The DA is in uproar after KZN Women’s Network leader, Shehana Kajee, asked would-be DA MP Candidate, Hannah Winckler, to prove she is a person of colour.
Allegedly, Winckler, who is a Kwa-Zulu Natal DA South Coast constituency officer, had to ask her father for a copy of his ID to prove that she is mixed-race.
According to the Sunday Times, Winckler explained the incident in detail in a letter to DA provincial leader Zwakele Mncwango.
The letter outlined how Winckler had explained her position as a person of colour, to which Kajee replied:
“What does your ID book racially categorise you as?”
DA federal executive chair James Selfe said that the party was currently dealing with the issue.
Briefly.co.za found that both Winckler and Kajee gave no comment on the matter.
