The SABC has officially decided to cut ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’. The long-running American soapie, which holds many precious memories for a lot of South Africans, has run its course.

If you have a memory tied to ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ it is either one of pure joy or complete irritation.

Briefly.co.za learnt that the show will no longer air as of today, 4 March. The SABC made the decision based on financial losses related to the show.

They stated that the show’s ‘poor return on investment’ grew deeper as the financial investment to have the soapie just ‘kept on increasing’.

The soapie has been a constant on my TV screens, in homes all over Mzansi, since the 90’s. The memorable soapie will be replaced by ‘Democracy Gauge’ – a local news show, ‘Taryn and Sharon’ – a local sit-com and ‘Keeping Score’ – a local drama.

Many feel that the decision to cut the soapie is well overdue and a brilliant choice by the SABC, but there are still those loyal fans who feel the pain.
